Beginnings

I thought since this is my first blog that I would talk about why horses and why art. It’s pretty simple really. Two of my earliest memories are of these two subjects. I know that I was introduced to horses early on. There are photos to prove it. So early I don’t remember.  Though I do have a vague memory of riding in a 4th of July parade on , I suppose, a friends horse. Anyway, the deal clincher was my first pony, Snowball. Very original name for a fluffy white Shetland pony, I know. But, hey, I was 5. She was one of those priceless tolerant yet feisty ponies. A faithful first, and the start of it all. Many lessons and parades later, there was no turning back.

As for the start of my art career, my earliest memory is of sitting in church illustrating the hymns that we were singing on the back of the services bulletin. What joy, what magic, to be able to show people exactly what I thought I was seeing inside my very own head. (A subject that I am sure I will talk about sooner or later.) This was, I think, my first taste of “real” creativity. Once you figure that out, as I’m sure many of you know, you just can’t get enough. Of course I give credit to Mom and Dad for those early painting lessons, and that teacher in high school who said I could do more than I thought possible. Where would any of us be without our key people. Unless your a hermit, which I don’t think most of us are. Though really, even hermits have people at some time in there lives. I mean we’re not made out of thin air and raised by wolves, are we? But, I digress.

We all start somewhere. This is where I started. I’m not claiming it to be the perfect beginning, but it was good for me. It got me started and it got me hooked. Of course there are ups and downs on the road. Anyone claiming otherwise is either very, very blessed or in great denial. And so here I am now, painting horses. It seems like the logical and happy conclusion to a very happy beginning. To be continued………of course.
